The History of The Name Jakarta

Who does not know Jakarta? Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia. Jakarta was first known as one of the named port of Sunda Kingdom of Sunda Kalapa, located at the mouth of the Ciliwung River in 397-1527. Then, Sunda Kelapa name was changed to Jayakarta given by the people and Cirebon Demak under the leadership of Fatahillah (Faletehan) after attacking and occupying the port of Sunda Kelapa on June 22, 1527. The name is usually translated as "city of victory" or "triumph of the city", but the true meaning is "victory achieved by an act or effort".
Determination of the anniversary of Jakarta on June 22 by Sudiro, the mayor of Jakarta, in 1956 was based on the tragedy of the occupation of the port of Sunda Kalapa by Fatahillah in 1527. In 1619, the VOC was led by Jan Pieterszoon Coen mastered Jayakarta after defeating forces of the Sultanate of Banten and later changed his name to Batavia. During the Dutch colonization, Batavia developed into a large and important city. Colonization by Japan beginning in 1942 and changed the name Batavia to Djakarta in appealing to residents during World War II. The city is also the venue of the Proclamation of Indonesian Independence on August 17, 1945 and was occupied until the recognition of the sovereignty of the Netherlands in 1949.

The Daendels Road

Pantura road which we now know as the Dutch De Grote Postweg or Post Road from Anyer to Panarukan was built in the era of Herman Willem Daendels between the years 1808-1811. This road shorten travel time by road from Surabaya to Batavia previously taken a month could be shortened to one week, and also very useful for sending a letter by Daendels to facilitate communication between controlled areas along Java.
To build the project, Daendels has employed thousands of people by force and not obtain wages or known as peonage. Many workers died and Daendels hang their heads on trees either side of the road. Governor General Daendels was scary, he cruel, sadistic and merciless. The road was completed in just one year (1809). Very briefly, a great achievement, and that’s why Daendels Road is known worldwide.

History of Changes The Catfish Statue into The Clock in Bekasi

Each town definitely has a characteristic or distinctive city icon. Previously, Bekasi has iconic catfish and wild mangosteen statue which is very famous and strategic location near by station Bekasi. Catfish statue made ​​in 1995 by Bekasi regent, Mr. Moch. Djamhari. Wild mangosteen and catfish is a rapidly growing crops in the city of Bekasi, therefore the regent made ​​it as icons.
But the people felt catfish and wild mangosteen were inappropriate became icons. Because catfish are very greedy and wild mangosteen is very cheap therefore it is not suitable for use as an icon. Then, on the date of 24 April 2002 Mr. Damin Sada with some people came to the catfish statue and burned it. Now, the statue is just memories and the people change it with a big clock to fill in the blanks.
