Each town definitely has a characteristic or distinctive city icon. Previously, Bekasi has iconic catfish and wild mangosteen statue which is very famous and strategic location near by station Bekasi. Catfish statue made in 1995 by Bekasi regent, Mr. Moch. Djamhari. Wild mangosteen and catfish is a rapidly growing crops in the city of Bekasi, therefore the regent made it as icons.
But the people felt catfish and wild mangosteen were inappropriate became icons. Because catfish are very greedy and wild mangosteen is very cheap therefore it is not suitable for use as an icon. Then, on the date of 24 April 2002 Mr. Damin Sada with some people came to the catfish statue and burned it.
